HDR Project

The inspiration for this photo is of the natural surroundings according to my style. For the bracketing, the under exposed image is at 50 ISO, 1/2400 exposure, and 6500 cloudy. The properly exposed image has 1/60 exposure while the over-exposed image has 1/15 exposure on my phone. Afterwards, I brought the three bracketed images into Photoshop and followed the process of making an HDR photo, File>Automate>Merge to HDR PRO>Add Open Files. Instead of keeping it at 16 bit, I kept it at 32 bit and then to Tone to ACR and adjusted the essentials, the color balance, the clarity, highlights, shadows, and exposure. The final result of it is a rustic, neutral cool overlay making the little river pond island seemingly a perfect place to go camping with the exception of the red car in the background. I was on the pathway towards the island and bridge in front of both Orange Hall and the Rowley building and because it was mostly cloudy when I did the bracketing, the lighting added the coolness of the the final image. Compositional elements in the image include rule of thirds and framing. The strongest part of the image is the rule of thirds because it highlights the island and the bridge at both crossing points and the space around it. The branches and trees, although a good part the image for the natural framing, is somewhat of a distraction and a bit of a weak link in the photo because of how excessively to many branches block some of the island. However, this is the only element in the final image I could not control but it is still a nice natural frame. What I learned from this assignment is that I know how to bracket images and make them into a beautiful HDR photo in Photoshop but what I may have done differently is to try to get the island at a different angle.
